This Privacy Policy describes how Peerware ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and discloses information when you use the CineGuess mobile application (the "Service").
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
A. Information You Provide to Us
Player Nickname: On first launch, the app generates a random guest nickname (e.g. "Guest_1234"). If you choose to personalize it, the nickname you set is stored and displayed publicly on Leaderboards and in Duels to identify your score. Do not use your real name or other identifying information as your nickname.
We do not require or collect your real name, email address, phone number, or any account registration to use the Service — there is no login or sign-up.
B. Information Collected Automatically
When you use CineGuess, the app and its third-party service providers automatically collect certain data to ensure functionality, show advertisements, and improve the game:
Device & Advertising Identifiers: Device model, operating system version, and advertising identifiers (e.g., Google Advertising ID / Android Advertising ID) used for ad delivery and measurement.
Gameplay & Usage Data: In-app actions such as levels completed, scores, streaks, session duration, and feature usage, used to operate and improve the game.
App Performance Data: Crash logs and diagnostic data may be collected automatically by the Android operating system and Google Play services to help identify and fix technical issues.
Randomly Generated Player ID: A random identifier is generated locally on your device (not tied to your real identity) to associate your scores and Duel matches with your session.
We do not collect precise or approximate location data.
2. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services, which may independently collect information used to identify your device:
1. Google AdMob (Advertising)
Used to display banner, interstitial, and rewarded video advertisements.
Uses your device's advertising ID to show personalized or non-personalized ads and to measure ad performance (impressions, clicks).
On iOS, ad personalization is subject to your App Tracking Transparency (ATT) choice.
2. Google Firebase (Backend, Storage & Analytics)
Firebase Analytics: Collects app usage and engagement data (e.g., level starts/completions, ad views, shares) to help us understand and improve the game.
Firebase Firestore: Stores game content (movie levels), Leaderboard entries, and Duel match data (nickname, score, and randomly generated player ID).
Firebase Storage: Hosts the movie images used in gameplay.
Both AdMob and Firebase are Google services; data handled by them is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
3. How We Use Your Information
To Provide the Service: Running the game, saving your progress locally and to our backend, loading levels, and enabling Leaderboards and Duels.
To Improve the Game: Analyzing gameplay data (via Firebase Analytics) to balance difficulty and fix issues.
To Show Ads: Funding the development of CineGuess via Google AdMob.
To Facilitate Social Features: Displaying your nickname and score on the Leaderboard, and matching you with opponents in Duel mode.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the third-party service providers listed in Section 2 (Google AdMob, Google Firebase) as necessary for them to perform their services, and as required by law.
5. App Permissions
To function correctly, CineGuess may request the following permissions on your device:
Internet Access: Required to download movie images, sync game data, and load ads.
Storage (Optional): Used only when you use the "Share" feature to temporarily save a shareable image to your device's cache before sharing it via other apps.
Vibration: Used for haptic feedback during gameplay (e.g., correct/wrong answers).
Notifications: Used to send local, on-device daily reminders (e.g., Daily Challenge alerts). These notifications are scheduled entirely on your device and do not involve sending personal data to us. You can disable them anytime in your device settings.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Leaderboard and Duel data (nickname, score, randomly generated player ID) is retained for as long as your local app data persists on your device, since your player ID is regenerated if you reinstall the app or clear app data. To request deletion of your Leaderboard/Duel data associated with a specific nickname, contact us using the details in Section 10 and we will remove it from our database.
7. Children's Privacy
CineGuess is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. Parents who believe their child has provided us with such information should contact us using the details below.
8. Data Security
We use commercially reasonable measures to protect the information we handle. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective immediately upon posting to this page, and the "Last Updated" date above will reflect the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
