Privacy Policy — Hot Take

1. Introduction

Hot Take ("the App", "we", "us", "our") is a social party game developed by Harsh Anegondi. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

By downloading or using Hot Take, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

2a. Information you provide

Player names (single-phone mode) When you add players in the Lobby, those names are stored only on your device in local storage. They are never transmitted to our servers.

Player name and room code (multiplayer mode) When you create or join a multiplayer room, your chosen display name and a randomly generated room code are stored temporarily in our database (hosted on Supabase) for the duration of your game session. This data is not linked to any persistent account or identity.

2b. Information collected automatically

Anonymous aggregate votes When a round completes, we record one anonymous data point: which question was played and whether the group majority voted Agree or Disagree. This powers the "vs. the World" comparison feature. We do not record individual player votes, player names, or device identifiers with this data.

Multiplayer room data During a multiplayer session, the following is temporarily stored on our servers:

Room code (randomly generated 4-letter string)
Display names chosen by players
Individual votes per round (to compute scores in real time)
Scores

This data is not linked to any account. It exists only for the duration of the game session and is not used for any purpose beyond running that session.

Purchase and entitlement data When you make an in-app purchase, this is processed by Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS). We use RevenueCat to manage purchase verification and entitlements. RevenueCat receives a purchase receipt and your platform-assigned user identifier to verify your purchase. We do not store payment card information.

Advertising data If you have not purchased the Remove Ads option, Google AdMob serves advertisements in the App. AdMob may collect:

Advertising ID (resettable device identifier)
IP address
App usage data
Device information (model, OS version)

This data is used by Google to serve relevant ads and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. You can reset your Advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your device settings.

6. Children's Privacy

The base app (General, Relationships, Work, and Food categories) is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

Age-restricted content: The following paid packs contain mature themes and are intended for users aged 17 and older:

7. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data:

Multiplayer room data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections
Supabase enforces row-level security policies so players can only access data for their own room
We do not store payment details — all payments are handled by Google Play / App Store

No system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted over the internet.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:

All users:

Delete local game data at any time by clearing app storage or uninstalling
Reset your Advertising ID in device settings to limit ad tracking
Restore purchases via the "Restore Purchases" button in the app

European Economic Area (GDPR):

Right to access personal data we hold about you
Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
Right to data portability
Right to object to processing
Right to withdraw consent

California residents (CCPA):

Right to know what personal information is collected
Right to delete personal information
Right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address in Section 10. Because we collect minimal identifying data, we may ask you to provide information to help us locate any data associated with you.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we will provide notice through the app or on the app store listing. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
