Lumika Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 July 2026

The short version

Lumika teaches you a language from the things around you. Your learning progress lives on your phone, not on our servers. We never ask you to sign up or create an account. You can delete everything Lumika knows about you in one tap, any time.

What we collect

Crash reports. If Lumika crashes, we receive a technical report (via Firebase Crashlytics) describing what happened, so we can fix it. This does not include your learning data, camera images, or anything you've typed.

Purchase records. If you subscribe to Lumika Pro, our payment processor (RevenueCat, working with Google Play) records that transaction so we can grant you access to Pro features.

An anonymous device identifier. Lumika generates a random ID on your device (not tied to your phone's hardware identity) to enforce fair-use limits on AI-powered features and to recognize your purchase across app restarts. This ID resets if you uninstall the app.

Usage numbers — only if you turn this on. Settings includes an opt-in toggle for anonymous usage statistics (how many words you reviewed today, that kind of thing — numbers only, never free text or identifying information). This is off by default.

What we don't collect

Your camera images. When you point Lumika's Scanner at objects around you, the detection happens entirely on your phone — no image is sent anywhere. The one exception: if you tap on something the app doesn't recognize locally, a single cropped photo is sent to our AI processor to identify it — that one request is never stored, on our servers or anywhere else, once it's answered. If the camera detects a face, that image never leaves your phone at all, full stop.

What you type. Selecting text elsewhere on your phone to look up in Lumika, and the (experimental) Lumika keyboard, both work entirely on-device. Nothing you type is transmitted to us.

What you read. Articles you share into Lumika's Reader stay on your device.

Your word list and learning history. Which words you know, how well you know them, and your review schedule all live in a local database on your phone. When Lumika looks up a dictionary entry or generates an example sentence, it sends only the single word being looked up (plus the list of words you already know, so example sentences stay within your vocabulary) — never your full learning history.

How we use what we collect

Crash reports help us fix bugs. Purchase records let us grant Pro access. The anonymous device ID prevents abuse of AI-powered features that cost us money per use. Opt-in usage numbers (if you enable them) help us understand which features are actually useful.

We do not sell your data. We do not show you ads based on your data. We do not build an advertising profile of you.

Third-party processors

Lumika uses these services to operate, each processing only what's described above on our behalf, under their own privacy terms:

  • RevenueCat — subscription/purchase management

  • Google Play — payment processing, app distribution

  • Firebase (Google) — crash reporting, remote configuration

  • Supabase — backend infrastructure for AI-powered features

  • Anthropic — the AI model that powers dictionary enrichment, object identification, and conversation practice

  • Google Cloud — text-to-speech audio generation

Your controls

  • Delete everything: Settings → Delete everything. This immediately and permanently erases all learning data on your device. There's no account to delete because none exists — this is genuinely everything.

  • Turn off usage stats: Settings → the opt-in usage toggle.

  • Manage your subscription: Settings → Manage subscription, or directly through Google Play.

Children

Lumika is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
