Lumika Terms of Service

Agreement

By using Lumika, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

The service

Lumika is a language-learning app. It teaches vocabulary and basic conversation through your camera, a spaced-repetition review system, and AI-assisted features (dictionary enrichment, object identification, conversation practice). No account or sign-up is required — your learning data lives on your device.

Subscriptions and purchases

Lumika Pro is offered as an auto-renewing monthly or annual subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase, billed through Google Play on Android or the Apple App Store on iPhone and iPad.

Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage or cancel anytime through Google Play's subscription settings, or — on iPhone and iPad — in your Apple ID account settings. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period, at the price shown for your region.

Annual subscriptions may include a free trial period, clearly disclosed before purchase. If you buy a subscription while a free trial is running, the unused portion of that trial is forfeited. All prices are as shown at checkout and may vary by region. Refunds are handled according to the refund policy of the store you purchased through.

Fair use

AI-powered features (camera object identification, dictionary enrichment, conversation practice) have daily usage limits to keep the service sustainable, even on paid tiers. These limits are described in the app and may be adjusted from time to time.

Acceptable use

Don't use Lumika to attempt to extract, scrape, or abuse the underlying AI services beyond their intended use in the app. Don't attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or interfere with the app's operation beyond what applicable law permits.

Your content

Camera images you point at are processed to identify objects for learning purposes, as described in the Privacy Policy. Text you select for lookup is processed on-device. You retain all rights to anything you input; we claim no ownership over it.

Intellectual property

Lumika's German dictionary content is adapted from the English Wiktionary and remains available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence (CC BY-SA 4.0); changes we made are described on the in-app Attributions screen. Content for Lumika's other languages — vocabulary, sentence frames, readers and courses — is original work created for Lumika and is not covered by that licence.

Disclaimer

Lumika is provided "as is." Language content, AI-generated examples, and identification results may occasionally be imperfect — Lumika is a learning aid, not a certified translation or reference source. We don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Lumika.

Changes

We may update these terms or the app's features over time. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.

Termination

You can stop using Lumika anytime by uninstalling it — Settings → Delete everything also removes all local learning data immediately, in addition to uninstalling. We may suspend access for violations of these terms.

If you downloaded Lumika from the Apple App Store

Apple requires these terms of any app distributed through the App Store that uses its own licence agreement rather than Apple's standard one. They apply in addition to everything above, and only to copies of Lumika obtained from the App Store.

This agreement is with us, not Apple. These terms are between you and Peerware alone. Apple is not a party to them and is not responsible for Lumika or its content.

Scope of licence. We grant you a non-transferable licence to use Lumika on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.

Maintenance and support. We are solely responsible for support for Lumika. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support.

Warranty. We are solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent they are not effectively disclaimed. If Lumika fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to Lumika.

Claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim you or a third party makes relating to Lumika — including product liability claims, any claim that Lumika fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation. We are also responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of any third-party claim that Lumika infringes that party's intellectual property rights.

Legal compliance. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and upon your acceptance Apple has the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce them against you.
