The short version

The extension collects nothing. It contains no network code at all — your conversations are read from the page, converted in your browser, and saved to your Downloads folder. Nothing is transmitted anywhere, on either the free or the paid tier.


Buying Pro is separate. That happens on Stripe's website, not inside the extension, and it does involve your email address. Everything about that is set out in Part 2 below.


These are genuinely two different systems, and it matters which one you are asking about.


Part 1 — The extension

What it accesses

To convert a conversation into a file, TaskPort reads the text, tables, code blocks and formatting that ChatGPT has rendered on the page you are looking at. This happens only when you click an export button.


That content is held in your browser's memory for as long as it takes to build the file you asked for, then written to your Downloads folder. It is not copied anywhere else.

What it stores, locally in your own browser

  1. Your settings — file name pattern, default capture scope, button position. Stored via chrome.storage.sync, which means Chrome may sync them between your own signed-in Chrome installations. That is Chrome's own mechanism; we have no access to it. These contain no conversation content.


  1. Your Pro licence key, if you have one — stored the same way, so it follows you to your other signed-in Chrome installations. The key contains the email address you purchased with, so it can be tied to your order. The extension never sends it anywhere — it is checked with cryptography on your own device.


  1. The local library, only if you turn it on — off by default. When enabled, a copy of each export is kept in this browser's IndexedDB so you can search and re-export it later. It never leaves the browser and never syncs. You can delete any entry, or all of them, from the library page or the settings page. Uninstalling the extension deletes it entirely.

What the extension does NOT do

  • No servers. The extension talks to nothing.

  • No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or usage statistics.

  • No account, sign-up or login to use it.

  • No advertising, ad networks, tracking pixels or fingerprinting.

  • No remotely hosted code. Nothing is downloaded or executed from outside the package.


You can verify this. The source is unminified and readable, and the automated test suite includes a check that fails the build if any network API — fetch, XMLHttpRequest, WebSocket, sendBeacon, EventSource — or any remote script tag ever appears in the shipped source.

Site access

TaskPort requests access to chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com only. It cannot read any other website.


The one exception is entirely under your control: if you click "Capture this page anyway" in the popup while on a different tab, TaskPort will run on that page for that one action, using Chrome's activeTab permission. This never happens automatically.

The Recon diagnostic

The "Recon" link copies a technical report to your clipboard to help us support new AI interface layouts. It contains structure only — HTML tag names, CSS class names, attribute names and element counts. It never includes the text of your conversation. Nothing is sent anywhere; the report goes to your clipboard and you decide whether to share it.


Part 2 — Buying TaskPort Pro

This section applies only if you buy a licence. If you use the free tier, nothing here happens and Part 1 is the whole story.

What happens when you buy

  1. You click "Get Pro" and are taken to Stripe Checkout, a page hosted by Stripe. You enter your email and payment details there. We never see your card details — they go directly to Stripe and are never transmitted through, or stored by, us.

  2. Stripe tells our fulfilment service that a payment completed, and passes it your email address.

  3. Our service uses that email to generate your licence key, which is cryptographically signed and contains the email so it can be tied to your order.

  4. The key is shown to you on the confirmation page, and emailed to you if email delivery is enabled.

Each of these has its own privacy policy governing their handling of your data.

What we store, and for how long

  • Your licence key and email are stored on the Stripe transaction record for your order. This is how we reissue a key you have lost, and it is retained for as long as Stripe retains the transaction — which we are also required to keep for accounting purposes.

  • Our server logs record the order reference and a partially masked email (for example b***@example.com). We deliberately do not log full email addresses.

  • We operate no database of our own. There is no customer list separate from the Stripe transaction records.

Lawful basis (UK GDPR)

We process your email address on the basis of performance of a contract — we cannot issue you the licence you paid for without it. Retention of transaction records is additionally supported by our legal obligation to keep accounting records.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal data we hold about you, and you may object to or restrict its processing. Email admin@peerware.site.


Two honest caveats on deletion:


  • We are legally required to retain transaction records for accounting purposes, so a purchase record cannot be erased on request.

  • Your licence key itself is a signed token that lives on your own device. Because verification is offline, we have no technical means to revoke or reach into a key already issued to you. Deleting it is done by removing it in the extension's settings.

What buying Pro does not change

Buying Pro adds no network activity to the extension. Your licence is verified on your own device using public-key cryptography — there is no activation server, no licence check over the internet, and no account. Everything in Part 1 applies identically to free and paid users.


General

Children

TaskPort is a document conversion utility and is not directed at children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version ships with the release that changes it and the date above is updated. Because the extension collects nothing, no change can retroactively affect data already gathered from it — there is none.
